Your bungalow is generally your pride and joy. Over time like most other things bungalows also need renovation and repair. This can be required both on the exterior and the interior of the house. When faced with this situation, you may need a starting point to set off your renovation tasks in the right direction. Here are some hints and guides to start off the process.
Repaint your walls
You may want to start by repainting your walls. Changing the color of your walls can drastically modify the look of your house. It not only neatens up the appearance immediately but the new color sets a refreshing tone for the other things present in the house.
When selecting colors you may want to opt for neutral colors within the bedrooms like a muted beige or off-white. For the shared living spaces it may be modern and trendy to opt for bold daring colors like electric blue, or even red. You may want to ensure that whichever color you choose goes well with the rest of the furniture in the room.
Change your wall paper
Nothing looks worse than old, peeling, fading wall paper. If this is the case it would be advisable to strip off your old wall paper. You can then choose to replace it with new wallpaper or paint the wall the color of your choice. These days there are options of choosing paints and colors which have reflective hues. These cause light to reflect better from the walls and give the impression of space.
New floors
Choose new carpets for some of the rooms in your bungalow. You can also choose to refurbish your floors in either hard wood or marble. If currently your house is carpeted opting for hardwood flooring will drastically change the look. And you may choose to carpet if currently the floors are made of hardwood. Opting for the other option will change the look of the house immediately. Changing from hardwood to carpets is of course the easier option as you can just remove the carpet to go back to hardwood any time
Kitchen and dining areas
Renovate or repair your kitchen and dining areas if they are showing signs of ageing or molding. You can try to clean them first with some professional help, just to see if there is still some life left. But technically if the top layer is wearing off, there isn’t much time left before the whole table, chairs and counters start to literally fall off.
Don’t forget the cosmetics
Small changes like changing the drapes, upholstery, the awnings or the canopies can also change the look of your house. These are relatively less expensive and can be incorporated easily. There is little effort involved in changing the drapes or refurbishing the couch.
Doors and windows
Doors and windows also need special attention. In most cases a fresh coat of paint or wood polish might do the trick. But in case they need further repair, now is the time to do that.
Paint the outside
And last but not the least, repaint the outside of the house. You will be surprised at how refreshed and new your bungalow starts to look.
